EPD Kit قارئ الكتب الإلكترونية

كنت متأكدا من أن الكتاب الإليكتروني لن يستطيع أن يأخذ محل الكتاب العادي لعدة أسباب منها: أن الكتاب العادي سهل النقل، وأخف في الوزن ، ويمكن قرائته في أي مكان وبأي وضعية. كذلك فإن الكتاب العادي لا يحتاج إلى مصدر كهربائي أو ما شابه حتى يٌقرأ. أيضا التأثير السلبي على العين يكون أقل من خلال الكتاب العادي، بحيث أن الكتاب الإليكتروني يحتاج إلى شاشة تصدر ضوءا قد يؤذي عين القارئ.

أما اليوم فأنا في شك من أمري. فلقد خرجت علينا اليابان كعادتها بتقنية جديدة وهي للعرض الورقي الإلكتروني. هذه التقنية عبارة عن شاشة عرض لها مواصفات شبيهة بالورق يمكن من خلالها تصفح الكمبيوتر على شكل تصفح كتاب، فهي تعمل كقارئ للكتاب الإليكتروني تتميز بوضوح صورة عالي الجودة أكثر بكثير من مثيلاتها الموجودة حاليا. ويمكن استعمالها بواسطة تقنية البلوتوث بحيث يسمح باستخدامها بشكل أكثر فاعلية وأكثر حرية. تتسم بوضوح الصورة . وبالطبع فإن لها إمكانيات أكثر من الكتاب العادي فهي خفيفة في الوزن، يمكنها التخزين ، بالاضافة إلى تطبيقات الكمبيوتر الأخرى. وهي تشبه الكتاب الورقي.

فهل يا ترى سيصمد الكتاب التقليدي أمام هذه التكنولوجيا الجديدة وما سلحقها من تطورات؟ أم سيتسلم ذلك الكتاب الذي حفظ ذاكرة العالم منذ بدء الخليقة كما استسلمت المجلات من قبل وطغت عليها المجلات الإليكترونية؟

Influences of the technologies have been a controversial topic in many professions and careers. In the field of library and information science many librarians claim that electronic libraries will replace the traditional libraries. Thus, the traditional books will be replaced by electronic books. On the other hand, other professionals insist that traditional books can not be replaced by electronic books because of some reasons such as: traditional books are easy to move from place to place; electronic books may harm reader’s eyes. However, now we might not be worried whether electronic books can be difficult to move and harmful for eyes if we know that there is a new technology solves these two reasons.

Active Matrix Electronic Paper Display (EPD) Prototyping Kit is a new technology presented by E Ink Corporation from Japan. This new technology can offer a high-resolution paper-like display on 6” SVGA (800 x 600) active matrix display which goes along with all of the hardware and software necessary to produce a fully functional portable device. It is a single-board computer with high speed processor and Bluetooth transceiver. This new EPD is prepared to operate as a simple electronic book reader. It is very new technology that begin shipping on November 1st 2005 as E Ink Corporation said.

Therefore, this EPD might change many librarians’ opinion regarding to wither the traditional books can be replaced with electronic book or not. We can imagine a student from the new generations who use EPD as small electronic paper-like book which contain books, articles and many other files. It is easy to move and would not affect reader’s eyes.
